The Studio

My studio has been a labor of love for over 25 years. One of the things students say they enjoy about taking lessons with Jubilee is the studio itself. The studio is a quiet space where my students can focus, unwind and take a break from hectic pace of life to enjoy a segment of time completely devoted to their music.

I design the lesson format to include various music skills, on and off the bench. Variety in the lessons keep the students interested as we practice additional aspects of musicianship such as sight reading in different gneres, rhythm sight reading and drills, harmonization, music notation and improvisation.

My two pianos give students a chance to play on instruments that sound and feel different. The grand piano is my pride and joy and open to all students to play on. My upright piano is the comfort zone that many students gravitate towards. The experience of playing on acoustic pianos is a joy for many of my students who have starter pianos or even electric pianos. We also enjoy the privilege of making music on two pianos and there is a rich heritage of music for two piano/four hand performances.

Parents are welcome and encouraged to sit in on lessons and many even participate with warm encouragement or good questions. On warmer days, parents often enjoy sitting on the outdoor veranda swing just a few steps outside the studio where they can still hear the sounds of their child's lesson. Some of my older students prefer to have the intimacy of their studio time without a parent present and I respect their personal opinion on this.
