Student of the Month!

Each month I honor one student who stands out in some special way.  I'm not saying it's easy to choose because all my students stand out but I do love honoring them each in their own special way!

May 2016                                                 Lily

It is my pleasure to honor Lily as the student of the month for April.  This year when we were making our goals to play for the National Guild Auditions Lily decided that after several years playing a few pieces for the "judge" she would liek to challenge herself to plya a 10 piece memorized program.  She has been working very hard for the last six months to put the details together for this long progrm.  Each of the 10 pieces is from a different style. I think Lily likes them all but her current favorite is blank, written by blank. She is very organized about setting goals and meeting them for each lesson. One thing that is really exceptional about Lily's study of the piano is the partnership that she takes with me in making suggestions about things in the lesson.  She is a student of trustworthy and well reasoned ideas.  It is always refreshign to hear her thoughts about musical things.

Congratuations Lily!

Past Student's of the Month!

April 2016                                              Mikayla

Mikayla, an 8th grade student, is our Student of the Month for April.  Mikayla has been taking lessons for six years.  She is a very fine student and is known to work very hard so that her pieces are extremely well polished.  She is a very expressive performer and likes music of many styles.  She also plays the violin in her school orchestra and is an exceptional tennis player.

Congratulations Mikayla!

March 2016                                              Isabel

Isabel is in the 5th Grade.  She is the student of the month for March.   An outstanding characteristic of Isabel as a student is her infectious joy in doing a piece well or mastering something that was hard. She also loves to sing while she plays and is happy when  a piece of music has words.  Sometimes she even writes her own words.  This year she is working on some compositional skills.

Congratulations Isabel.

January 2016                                           Sarah

Sarah is the student of the month for Febraury.  She has such a love for music. She comes from a family  the loves and enjoys music, including grandparents, cousins and brother.  She and her brother Aaron make beautiful music together on piano duets.  One of Sarah's major musical outlets is on the stage and she has frequently performed with Stagelight Productions.  Their current production is the Music Man in which Sarah plays Gracie Shinn.

Way to go Sarah!

December 2015                                       Rotimi

There is an old Chinese proverb that says "One picture is worth ten thousand words."  I could not agree more when looking at the photo of my student of the month for December!  He is four years old with a bubbly enthusiasm.  He greets each new music experience with a smile and often a laugh.  He LOVES to learn.  You can see the little wheels of his mind turn.  What a joy to open the doors of music for him.

Congratulations Rotimi!

November  2015                                   Aaron

Gershwin is this guys favorite composer.  Do you remember the aria Gershwin composed called "Summertime?"  It became so popular that it became a much recorded jazz standard.  Well...it's no longer summertime here in Maryland as we are already approaching Thanksgiving, but Aaron receives the honor of Student of the Month for November for the great attention to detail he uses in practicing every piece.  Aaron is a fabulous sight reader and learns almost every piece in a very short amount of time. One colorful and unique aspect of Aaron is his wonderful accompanying skills!    Congratulations Aaron!

October 2015                                   Marklin Yi

Rest assured!  Not only 7th graders can be my student of the month but this month I did pick Marklin who happens to also  be in the 7th grade.  Marklin is a hard worker, steady, consistant, and pays careful attention to his music.  He knows how to patiently work on small details until they become mastered and significantly build a beautiful piece of music.  He is a delight to coach.    Congratulations Marklin!

September 2015                                    Marie

There is a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow and here is proof!   She is one of my 7th grade students who's cheerful smile, love of piano and respect for learning shine through at every lesson.  I am honoring Marie this month for adding her own colorful style to Jubilee Studio!

Congratulations Marie!
